I've always been intrigued by the little (and rare/short lived) experiments they tried at different times, like the treatment they give UJB on 5/19/77, and the similar treatment given to Terrapin on 5/22/77. Or the instrumental set openers of 74 (6/23 into Ship of Fools, 6/26 into Chinacat, etc). And the short lived trios of early 78 before they settled into the interminable "drums" and "space" later in the year.

Hey Jim F - thank you for the specific recommendations, I will check them out.

I saw them pull a rare instrumental set opener in Providence, 1980. Someone's stuff wasn't working, and Bobby started a Supplication jam that eventually led into Estimated. Pretty cool - that one's been released in the Download Series.
